Good news: There’s a middle ground between YouTube workouts and $90/hour sessions. If you’re researching affordable personal training options in Toronto, here’s how to make a smart, value-driven choice.
Yes, YouTube is full of training advice. Some of it’s great. Some of it’s… not.
The two big problems:
- It’s not made for you – Most content is designed to hit the algorithm, not your actual needs.
- Technique is a skill – Proper training is more like learning guitar than memorizing trivia. You won’t “get it” just by watching reps.
👀 Want to go this route? Make sure you follow creators who:
- Explain why a move matters
- Break down common form errors
- Focus on progression and sustainability
It’s a nice idea. Speak to an expert about your goals. Get them to carefully assess you and then show you everything.
Except… exercise isn’t a download. It’s a learned skill. Unless you’re already training regularly and just need a tune-up, this often doesn’t work. It’s like getting one tennis lesson and expecting to serve aces.
That said, if you’re already working out and just need targeted tweaks, this can be worth it. But it’s not ideal for beginners.
This can work. It looks good on paper. A weekly check-in, and then you hit the gym solo.
But here’s what we’ve seen:
There’s one more thing we want to mention (because it bugs us): If you think you can pull this off, it is a totally worthwhile experiment. The problem is that a lot of places (some of which rhyme with Should Wife) make you sign a contract for a huge number of sessions. You shouldn’t have to commit before taking things for a test drive.
Bike, walk, dance, climb, throw, play. It’s not the most efficient option but… honestly, who cares?
We’re not joking. A physically active life is underrated. Walk more. Take stairs. Ride your bike. This works better than most people realize — especially if you’re not ready to invest in coaching yet.
You can build momentum with:
- Free bodyweight workouts (Reddit’s r/bodyweightfitness is solid)
- Park workouts
- Playing with your kids (really)
Later you can layer in strength training when you're ready.
Usually comes with:
- Cookie-cutter programs
- High trainer turnover
- Long-term contracts you’ll regret
We’ll just say: be cautious here.
This is why we built our model.
You get:
- A custom plan, based on your goals
- Hands-on coaching when you need it
- A motivating space where people actually train
- Rates that make 2–3x/week possible — from $50–60/session
You share a coach with up to 4 other people, but never feel lost. Your coach is always around, but you get the space to explore on your own. It’s the coaching sweet spot between DIY and 1-on-1.
